Nordstrom is a fashion company that is based in America. The company was started in 1901 as a shoe retail shop by John W. Nordstrom and Carl F. Wallin. The first shoe store was opened in 1901 and it was known as Wallin and Nordstrom. The company was successful in the years that followed leading to opening of the second store in Seattle in 1923. In 1928, John Nordstrom retired selling his shares to his two sons. Carl Wallin retired in 1929and he also sold his shares to John’s sons Everett and Elmer. The two Nordstrom brothers took full control of the business in 1929. The business continued to grow under the new management and in 1930 they had a grand opening of their remodeled store. In the same year they decided to change the name of the business from Wallin and Nordstrom to Nordstrom Inc. Lloyd Nordstrom joined the business in 1933.
In 1958, the company had a total of eight stores in two major states in United States. However the business still focused on shoes. The company changed its name gain from Nordstrom Inc. to Nordstrom Best in 1969 to signify their buying of the Best Apparel of Seattle. The company however, dropped the name ‘Best’ and went back to the original company name, Nordstrom. The three brothers managed the company for a period of forty years where they retried and left the company to their children.
