About the Bank of Scotland

The Royal Bank of Scotland PLC has been a Lloyds Banking Group subsidiary since January 2009. It is a clearing and commercial bank that has its headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is one of the oldest banks in the area as it has been around since the 17th century. In fact, in the UK it holds the honor of being the second oldest surviving bank. Its closest competition for the oldest bank title is the Bank of England which was founded a year before the Bank of Scotland. However, it is the very first bank to print its own bank notes and until now it still continues to print its sterling silver notes by way of legal arrangements made especially for Scottish banks.
