How to Take Suboxone Strips Properly

Suboxone or Subutex are partial opioid drugs that have Buprenorphine as the main active ingredient. They are used to treat drug dependence and have been proven to be effective in helping people get over drug addiction. Suboxone is available as dissolving tablets and strips that have to be taken once in a day.

Issues with Suboxone strips

The taste of Suboxone pills and strips can be over powering too many people, and therefore they tend to spit out the saliva. This reduces the effectiveness of the strips and pills and can reduce the concentration of the drug that enters the system. They are a few ways in which you can control salivation while using the strips. This should help to ensure that the required drug concentration is infused into the body.

Taking Suboxone strips

  • It will help if you can get your mouth dried out before you take the Suboxone strips.
  • Suboxone strips are placed under the tongue, as it will have to be kept inside the mouth for about an hour to get maximum absorption into the body.
  • Take a paper towel and place it under your tongue for about 15 minutes. This will help dry out the area and will help reduce salivation in the initial phase.
  • Remove the paper towel from the mouth and immediately place the Suboxone strip under your tongue.
  • You can place the strip as a whole or can tear it into two pieces and place one on either side of the tongue. Make sure that your finger is dry before you touch the strips.
  • The strip will attach to the underside of the tongue or the mouth if the area is dry and will stay there for a considerable amount of time.
  • Do not swallow the saliva often and if possible, keep moving the saliva around the mouth to increase absorption.
  • Ensure that you keep the strips inside the mouth for a minimum of 30 minutes for effective absorption.
