U.S. Airways is one of America’s major airlines that operate to more than 198 destinations in North and South America, Middle East and Europe. The airline was founded in the year 1937 as All American Aviation, an airmail service provider. In 1949, it became a passenger service airline and in 1953, it was renamed as Allegheny Airlines. In the 1970s the airlines was in the middle of huge customer dissatisfaction and was nicknamed as ‘Agony Air’. In 1979, it was again renamed to U.S. Air.
US Airways is the seventh largest airlines in the U.S and has about 344 mainline aircrafts and 285 express aircrafts. It has its headquarters in Tempe, Arizona, USA and it employs about 32,000 employees. U.S Airways is all set to merge with American Airlines, which will then make it the largest airline in the world. However, there are some issues still to be sorted out as the Us Government has expressed concerns about the merger. If the merger goes through, American Advantage program of American Airlines and Dividend Miles program of US Airways will be merged.
